Easter at Tyros

At Easter many customs revive in Tyros. On Holy Friday, the Epitaphs are carried with reverence along the coastal road of the village, accompanied by fishing boats and many yachts from the sea, while thousands of people follow the holy procession. On Holy Saturday young children fill the bay of Tyros from side to side with thousands of candles that illuminate the sea and symbolize the souls of lost Tsakonian seamen and fishermen.

At the time of the Resurrection of the Lord, in the two parishes of the town, the Tsakonians illuminate the sky with hundreds of fireworks, setting the night on fire, celebrating the defeat of death by Jesus Christ.

In the parish of the Metamorphosis at the port, Judas's burning in the sea is revived on a special raft by the Tsakonian firemen, accompanied by spectacular fireworks that illuminate Tyros from side to side.

On Easter Sunday, in the parish of Aghia Marina in the town square, the Gospel is read in the Tsakonian dialect by the priests of Tyros.

There is a feast on the main square with roasted lamb and local wine.
